2 Wins at BCR for CNYC !!!

Submitted by PM on Wed, 04/28/2010 - 7:46pm.

The riders of CNYC continued their successful Spring campaign at the Binghamton Circuit Race held on Sunday April 25th. Richard Serton scored his first win for the season. Riding in the Cat. 5 race Serton produced a strong sprint to win by a wheel. Brett Sherwood took a good 11th place finish out of 41 riders. Ad Stabel made it two weekends in a row with race wins. Riding in the Master's 45 + Stabel wound things up to continue his run of great results. Rich Karaz took 2nd in the 45 + field.

Race Reports Below:

By Richard Serton

In the Men's Cat 5 field most of the action was saved for the final 200m of the 20 mile race. A few early attempts at a breakaway, including ones by CNYC's own Richard Serton and Brett Sherwood were unsuccessful. It seemed that most of the field was content to stay together and fight it out at the end. About halfway through the final lap a palpable sense of urgency seemed to come over the peloton. All at once every rider was jockeying for position to start the final sprint. As the group reached the base of the final short climb, the sprint began with several riders in good position for the win. CNYC's own Richard Serton, who started the sprint in about 10th place, had the legs to overtake the rest of the field and snag 1st place by about half a wheel. Brett Sherwood finished strong in 11th place.

Tales from Inside the Peloton ...... CYLRR Reports

Thanks to Rich Serton, Ad Stabel and Marjolein Schat for the cyclingnews write ups.

Report #1

A damp and chilly cold front stayed in the region just long enough to drop some rain on this year's CYLRR. But, the racing was fast and fierce. In the combined A-B field the pack stayed together from the start to the base of the first climb on lap 1. The pace increased enough so that by the end of the first 2 climbs the true contenders had separated themselves from the group; but no real attacks had come. A group of about 25 including several CNYC riders descended together and began the 2nd lap. As a steady rain began to fall, this group headed North and approached the final climbs. CNYC's Richard Serton was the first to attack on the last climb. He was followed by a group of 9 riders. Ryan Steers pulled clear of this group near the top and opened up a gap of about 400m. The chase group worked furiously to reign him in as the final blistering descent began. As the combined group rounded the last turn into the home straightaway CNYC was in a great position. They had 4 riders in the top 10. After an all out sprint CNYC's own Ad Stabel came clear for the win with Rich Karaz taking the 3rd position for a near-podium-sweep by the host club. CNYC also took 6th and 7th places with Brett Sherwood and Richard Serton.

CYLRR Weather Update

Submitted by PM on Fri, 04/16/2010 - 3:06pm.

The forecast for this weekend's Check Your Legs RR reads more like a late February forecast for a weekend in Belgium. That being the said....we are hoping the bad weather pushes through and the race can go on. We will race if the conditions are safe to race. That means in the cold...rain....wind.....it's a go. But if there is snow of any consequence on the roads the race will be canceled. Please take a look at the website the morning of the race. If the CYLRR is unsafe to run I will try to post a notice by 8 AM.

Serton Takes 3rd at Battenkill for CNYC

Submitted by PM on Sat, 04/10/2010 - 9:55pm.

In his first race for CNYC ( And, his first race of the 2010 season. ) Richard Serton grabbed a great 3rd place finish in the Category 5 race at Battenkill. What started out dark and blustery turned out to be a great day for racing - the clouds broke not long after we started. With a few exceptions Rich's group stayed together until the final tough climb and then a small group broke away. Two guys got up the road. Richard chased the 2nd place rider for about 2k starting at the 5k marker but wasn't making any ground. He then hung back with 4 other riders thinking they would fight it out for 3rd place. Coming into the final turn Serton dropped the hammer and came clear for a podium spot.

Free Chamois Cream From Dr. Naylor

Submitted by PM on Fri, 04/02/2010 - 3:43pm.

Free samples of chamois creme to all pre-registered riders for the CYLRR. Dr. Naylor's Udder Balm has been used by cyclists in the know for years. It's locally made. A product of the USA. And costs a fraction of what the expensive chamois cremes do. A few of the CNYC riders think it's the best stuff you can put in your shorts.
Check out their website at http://www.drnaylor.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=30&Itemid=60

Also scroll down to the second testimonial - from a cyclist with over 25 years experience with Dr. Naylor's products - as he says, "If only cows could talk!"
