History

The Joesph Brant Bicycle Regatta was the brainchild of, among others,
Michael Millner, a New York City escapee who moved to Oneonta in the spring
of 1975. He was most impressed with the General Clinton Canoe Regatta, that
being the area's major outdoor event and a source of great pride to the
hosting communities. His desire to participate in the weekend's excitement,

Thinking of Doing a Bike Tour? - Let Cyclotour.com Provide Some Guidance

Submitted by Bob Thomas on Wed, 01/20/2010 - 10:35pm.

While working for Delaware County, NY 4H Camp Shankitunk I had the opportunity to lead a bike trip from Niagara Falls to Delhi, NY. While mapping out the trip I was thinking, "Wouldn't it be nice to have a book with tips about routes to take and great places to visit and/or camp?"

Lucky for me, before I left I learned about the books produced by Cyclotour.com - especially for me, the book about touring around Lake Ontario.

So if you are going on a bike trip this summer - don't reinvent the wheel - click on

2009 Owasco Flyer Race Report

Submitted by PM on Tue, 06/30/2009 - 9:25pm.

Thanks to Rich Karaz for the Great Result and Race Report

Jack K. and Mike T. did an amazing job of putting on this race. Chip Timing.....Perfectly Marshaled Intersections....a fun route and a beautiful course.

From Inside the Peloton......As it Happens.....By RK.

The Owasco Flyer...come-one-come-all. How do the race directors Jack Kirch and Mike Tersegno attract a crowd of 300 participants for a bike race around Owasco Lake? The quick answer is, they put on a great event with a swag bag and picnic for all after the event; there is an acute level of attention to rider value. Thanks guys. Your efforts showed well. Pre-registered were my CNYC clubmates Mike Beggs, Peter Martin and my Summertime neighbor Chris Welch of Indianapolis. I was unsure if I really wanted to go? Especially with my regular training partners Tope Damiano, Sarah Krysiak and Wayne Bray bowing out to prepare for Fitchburg. Okay, I'll go. The day got off wrong concerning the forecast which called for rain. It could not have been a nicer day. All went routinely smooth as Chris and I got ready to roll. As one of the race officials was giving last minute instructions Chris and I decided to find shade during the final minutes before the start. We both looked at the sea of 300 riders. Honestly, neither of us felt we would end up contesting 1st place. Still, you have to have some sort of plan. I said to Chris, "If we are in it for a good finish, the line comes up quickly at the top of a little kicker. Go earlier rather than later. If we are together, I'll give you a little shout." Remember that quote folks.

CNYC Takes Two at the Strawberry Festival RR

Submitted by PM on Tue, 06/23/2009 - 9:49pm.

CNYC had it's best weekend of 2009 by winning two of the race categories at Strawberry Festival. TVC does a great job of putting on this race year after year. It's one of New York State's most difficult road courses; with lots of climbing and an uphill sprint. Two tales from inside the peloton. Thanks to Ad Stabel and Dale Beckwith for the race reports.

Rich Karaz and Ad Stabel took the start of the 45+ field. They were up for two hilly loops; starting with a steep climb leading past the finish as soon as the peloton crossed the Susquehanna river.
Although cloudy and after an extremely wet day and night the morning of the race was dry for the most part. Immediately, Andy Ross, and Dave Fasso from MaxPowerCycling took the reigns and rode a stiff tempo up the steep climb past the finish. Assisted by Doug Carlson and Ernie Bayles from Chris Cookies they were trying to shake the tree right from the start. The group mostly stayed together until the second steep section; there Andy Ross was once again shaking the tree. Ad Stabel passed him on the middle section and rode a stiff tempo once he noticed a small gap starting to appear. After that a group of seven riders went off the front. The lead pack consisted of two riders each from Chris Cookies, MaxPower and CNYC, one guy from Corning and a Canadian rider.
